THE PORTREEVE'S CHALLENGE

The Portreeve's Challenge was introduced in the early 1980's and was a little over 7 miles along roads and lanes around Ashburton with challenging hills and idyllic scenery. Held during Ashburton's carnival week, the race enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere with supportive crowds at the start and finish with perhaps a pint of the locally brewed Portreeve's Challenge beer to look forward to at the finish.  Sadly the beer is no longer produced but after a brief hiatus the race has been reborn and modernised to a 10k challenge with a revised course but still with the same carnival atmosphere!
